Is my iOS or iPadOS device backed up in iCloud?

Keeping your device backed up is something Apple makes very easy to do with iCloud. Having a backup of your data can save you time and headaches, if for any reason your data needs to be transferred or wiped. Here is how to ensure your device is backed up:

  1. Open the settings app on your device.

  2. Select your name at the top. If you are not signed into iCloud on the device, sign in with your existing Apple ID, or create a new one.

  3. Tap on iCloud.

  4. Select iCloud Backup.

  5. If the switch is toggled off, tap on it to turn it on. This should automatically initiate a backup. If it does not, you may tap on "Back Up Now" and this will manually begin a backup. If the switch is toggled on, you should be all set.

Here are a few things worth noting:

  • Once you have enabled iCloud Backup, your device will automatically back up to the cloud when the device is connected to both power and Wi-Fi. This makes it more convenient as you won't have to worry about if your backup is recent or not.

  • At any point in time, if you wish to manually back up the device, you may follow steps 1 through 4 above, and then select "Back Up Now".

  • If you do not have enough iCloud storage space and wish to purchase more, you may go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Change Storage Plan to do so.
